In the approach to World Mental Health Day this Saturday, 10 October Loughborough College has been highlighting the range of support always available to students.
In addition to raising awareness of the services they have on offer, throughout this week the College is hosting a series of sessions for more than 100 students, led by the Let’s Talk Wellbeing Team for Leicestershire and Rutland.
Loughborough College Wellbeing Advisors Sarah Outram and Lara Poole, together with two full-time counselors, provide on campus support including regular one on ones, liaison for help in lessons and assistance with accessing external services.
“The sessions Deborah Wheatley and Kate Ottywill from the Let’s Talk Wellbeing team are leading this week are really being received well by the students, giving them the opportunity to discuss issues affecting them, to get lots of tips and guidance and to receive information on the team’s self-referral systems,” said Lara Poole.
“There is a national growth in the numbers of young people seeking support for mental health issues - and we are certainly noticing an increase in College.
“That is why this week’s sessions and all the work we do raising awareness of mental health and where students can go for help in College is so valuable.
“Students tell us what s a great comfort it is to them that we are able to provide such a variety of support right on their doorstep.”
