A young Loughborough College chef today impressed the BBC with a live recreation of the dish which scooped her a top national prize – and the chance to represent the UK on the world stage.
As Daniella Bromley, 18, told BBC Radio Leicester how she scooped gold at the 2015 prestigious UK World Skills Culinary Arts, taking her a step closer to the global final in Abu Dhabi, presenters and producers were drawn to the kitchen by the aromas from her food.
Loughborough College’s Darren Creed described the “phenomenal” year which has seen Hospitality and Catering students secure more than 50 national competition prizes while Daniella has cooked for Prince Edward, Nick Knowles and the BBC DIY SOS team and has won accolades at competitions all over the country. “You’ve pretty much nailed gold in everything,” said presenter Ady Dayman.
Darren added that Daniella has also secured a coveted work experience position with the Michelin-starred Hambleton Hall restaurant in Oakham.
Meanwhile, praise was heaped on Daniella’s presentation as she plated her chicken dish with asparagus, shallots, carrots and potatotoes, poured over a reduction made with red wine, sherry and brandy and garnished with pea shoots and herbs.
Bridget Blair gave the “exquisite” dish ten out of ten, as did Ian Stringer who had “never given anything a ten. That’s probably the best mouthful of food I have ever tasted,” he added.
