The latest young rugby player to arrive at a Championship side takes the number of Loughborough College names with professional clubs to seven.
Jay Neath made the move to Warrington Wolves this week for a three month trial after completing his Loughborough College and RFL Sport programme.
London Broncos recently snapped up Jay’s classmates Elliott Norman and Hayden Freeman for trials and signed former students Matt Davis and Ben Gray to the side last year. Dylan Bale has been given a professional contract with the Coventry Bears and Trae O’Sullivan is currently on trial with the Leeds Rhinos.
Jay, 18, said: “I am proper chuffed to get this chance. I had played a game with the Midlands Academy side against Warrington and when we went out to eat afterwards Warrington said I had played well – and then asked if I would like a trial with them.
“I was speechless. When you have been working towards something so intensely it is hard to believe when you finally get the opportunity to make it a reality.
“I came to the Loughborough College RFL programme because I hoped the mixture of training, playing and what I learnt would help me develop – on and off the pitch.
“The areas I covered on the course like nutrition, psychology and sports coaching have made a massive difference to me as a player and as a person. Everyone at the College has been so supportive. It’s been really positive.
“Of course it is a bit scary to leave Loughborough to a new environment where I don’t know anyone but it is also really exciting to know I am moving to a whole new level.
“I have only played rugby league for three years so it has been a big shock to have Warrington give me this trial but I won’t let Loughborough College or the team down.
“I think my mum still can’t believe it but I know why it is taking so long for it to sink in. This really is everything I could have hoped for. It’s massive.”
