Special forces were at work at Loughborough College when the Royal Marines arrived to put students through their paces.
Serving marines involved Public Services students in a series of intensive exercises and were so impressed by what they saw that they have given staff and students a special invitation to join them on their base in Devon, in their 350th anniversary year.
“The marines led 70 of our students through a rigorous fitness session as well as demanding team building. If they weren’t quick enough they were given correctional activities, such as push ups,” said Mark Burns, Loughborough College Lecturer in Public Services.
“The students then had the chance to talk to the marines about their experiences, for example when they were deployed in Afghanistan, and to ask them for careers advice. To get an insight into the expectations of military life from commandoes doing it right now was really valuable.
“The team told us the effort and commitment that had been on show that day had been outstanding and they invited ten students and two staff to their Commando Training Centre in Lympstone for a week’s training experience in the summer.
“Now everyone is working really hard to be given the chance at this fantastic opportunity.”
