COLLEGE student and basketball ace Jamell Anderson has become an ambassador for the Stop Smoking Service’s Balls to Stop Smoking campaign.

The 23-year-old, who is on an Applied Sports Science course and was a regular and valued member of Leicester Riders’ treble-winning side last season, is recognised as a sporting role model and is now helping to spread awareness of smoking which affects 26 per cent of Leicester’s population.

The Stop Smoking Service is also active on the College campus, holding regular weekly meetings to encourage students who wish to quit.

Jamell said: “When I signed up to become a ‘Balls to Stop Smoking’ ambassador, I was keen to find out more about what the Stop Smoking Service did in the Leicestershire community. During the course of the awareness session, I found it refreshing to hear something that was more than ‘smoking is bad’. The service really does touch on numerous ways in which smoking can impact a lifestyle and removes the myths surrounding certain subjects. Hopefully, we can help spread the word of what the service can do for people in Leicestershire.”
