Loughborough College has announced the winners in a national programme aiming to inspire more people to read and share their enjoyment of reading with others.
The library team has revealed Lucy Cavill and Malgorzata Michniewicz as the top prize winners in the 2017/18 ‘Reading Ahead’ challenge.
Approaching 1000 students and staff have taken part in the Reading Agency scheme since Loughborough College began supporting it six years ago.
“Everyone is asked to read six books, poems or graphic novels and to review each one in a dedicated Reading Ahead diary.
“They are nudged along the six months they’re given to complete this with mini incentives, like fruit and cookie tokens!” said Library Administrator Sarah Malyon.
Performing Arts student Lucy was awarded first and Malgorzata second prize after going into a draw alongside their fellow students who completed the challenge – with both students receiving Love to Shop vouchers.
“Our students are given a challenge as part of their academic tutorial where they audit their reading skills and complete tasks based on a book they’ve chosen to read. We set this up to coincide with the Library’s Reading Ahead challenge and there’s no doubt it encourages them to continue reading and build on the skills they’ve gained from their lessons,” said Graham Ireland, from Loughborough College’s Performing Arts team.
