Massive impact of Engineering degree teaching at Loughborough College praised by advanced apprentice

An advanced apprentice has praised the Engineering degree teaching at Loughborough College for the massive impact it has had on his work.

Taylor Kind described how the knowledge he has gained during his course with the College has enabled him to help tackle design issues at Cavendish Nuclear which have “ultimately saved the company a lot of money.”

The CAD Designer studies electrical and electronic engineering with Dr Muhammed Al-Asadi, who leads the BSc (Hons) Engineering programme at Loughborough College – which was recently rated Outstanding for apprenticeships by education watchdog Ofsted.

Taylor, who achieved distinctions for electronic principles, says there is no doubt his learning has been significant in his working success, “specifically within the design of Printed Circuit Boards.

“I’ve been studying for an HNC with Loughborough College alongside working for Cavendish for two years and the knowledge I gained on my course with Dr Asadi has not only enabled me to diagnose and find issues ahead of manufacture but also to talk to experienced engineers to fix those issues.

“I love working and studying. I’ve had the opportunity to gain experience in several different fields in the manufacturing facility and the design office at Cavendish, giving me valuable knowledge of the whole process. In combination with the qualifications I’ve been working towards at the College I’ve had real momentum in developing and progressing and hopefully it won’t be too long before I achieve my ambition to qualify as an engineer.”

“We would like to join with Taylor in celebrating his success with Cavendish Nuclear.

“We work closely with the Engineering sector to help improve organisations and strive to make our courses commercially and industrially relevant to our students. Taylor’s experience perfectly illustrates the positive impact applied Higher National qualifications can have on UK industry,” said Dan Apparicio, professional qualifications programme lead at Loughborough College.

Alongside fellow British-Iraqi academics and researchers who live and work in the UK, Taylor’s lecturer at Loughborough College Dr Al-Asadi was recently honoured at a London ceremony with a letter of thanks and recognition presented by the Iraqi Minister for Higher Education and Scientific Research.

“Over his lifetime Mohammed Al-Asadi has shown dedication to his field of study and so many of our students have benefited from his knowledge and guidance,” added Dan Apparicio.
