The launch of a brand new Loughborough College rugby academy giving girls from all over the country the opportunity to progress through the ranks of elite rugby has been highlighted by Touchline TV.
Chris Parr, who leads the programme at the College in association with the RFU and players Hannah Walton, Abi Gordan and Lauren Rigby describe the high level training the academy provides.
“The women’s team winning the World Cup last year really gives the girls something to aim for and we are giving these players the chance to reach a standard where they are ready to represent England and Great Britain – because there will also be contracts available for the Olympics.
“Loughborough College offers training and teaching which enables the girls to perform as an elite athlete on and off the field and to achieve academic qualifications,” said Chris Parr.
“We are working with the RFU to increase the talent pool while taking real care of our players as they work hard in their studies and for their game, aiming for international honours.”
Loughborough College academy player Lauren Rigby explained: “Women’s rugby is on TV much more than it has ever been and for the game to be getting that profile gives us something to aspire to. My dream is to play for England.”
“Our training is fitted around our timetable so we have enough time to do our college work,” added Hannah Walton. “The standard of coaching and teaching we get will really help us.”
Abi Gordon agreed: “An academy of this quality doesn’t come around every day. It is such an amazing opportunity, you would not want to turn that down. I want to get as high up as I can in the game, hopefully playing for England one day.”
