A Loughborough College student elected to the UK Youth Parliament has taken to You Tube to highlight the national Make Your Mark campaign.
Rina Roy, who studies A levels at Loughborough Sixth Form College, has been encouraging students on campus and in the local area to vote on the issue most important to them ahead of a Westminster debate.
Education Secretary and Loughborough MP Nicky Morgan is offering Rina her support in raising awareness of the online top ten for 11-19 year olds to choose from before 13th November when the UK Youth Parliament will come together in the House of Commons to debate and decide the campaign for the year ahead.
Rina appears on You Tube ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=63&v=tsZPgcfhUh8 ) helping to explain the options, ranging from votes at 16, to climate change to the living wage.
“Last year’s achievement was fantastic with the amount of young people that were involved in the campaign. We managed to get over 11,500 votes in Leicestershire, with over 4000 votes in Charnwood, which was the highest turnover in the whole of the county. I really hope this year for Make Your Mark 2015 is the same. With an increasing number of votes from young people, it is hoped that more will have a say on issues that interest them.
“I would like to say huge thank you to Nicky Morgan, for her ongoing support with Make Your Mark Campaign. It has been an honour working with her for nearly two years in my term as MYP, and her support in UK Youth parliament has been incredible.”
Nicky Morgan added: “I support Rina in her efforts to encourage local students to make their mark. The issues that they vote on are some of the most important facing us today as lawmakers. It’s time to Make Your Mark!”
