An outstanding performance at the 2015 National Championships at the weekend sees a host of Loughborough College athletes named in the first wave of selections for next month’s European Athletics Junior Championships – with many more set to make the team for Europe and for the World Youth championships this summer.
Current Sport students studying on the UK Athletics AASE programme with Loughborough College who were announced for the team this week included Ojie Edoburun (pictured), who tops the European junior men’s rankings for 100m.
Joining Edoburun in Sweden are classmates Jacob Fincham-Dukes (Long Jump), Charlie Myers (Pole Vault), Charlotte McLennaghan (200m) and Amy Holder (Discus).
Competing alongside the Loughborough College students in July in Eskilstuna are College alumni Kyle Langford (800m), Montel Nevers (Triple Jump) and Amy Griffiths (1500m).
Edoburun, Nevers, Myers, McLennaghan and Holder will also be joining the GB U20 team for the 2015 Mannheim International later this month alongside Loughborough College students Reuben Arthur (100m), Adam Hague (Pole Vault) and Theo Etienne (4x100m relay) and Shannon Malone (4x100m).
Loughborough College Elite Sport tutor James Wilkinson said: “Following this weekend's England U20 championships it is great to see both current and past students rewarded with GB selection for the European Juniors and the Mannheim International.
“Both of these competitions represent an excellent development opportunity for these Loughborough College athletes and it is an excellent reward for their successes this past weekend.”
Loughborough College athletes reached the finals in more than 60 events at the National Championships with more than half securing top three positions.
