A Loughborough College rugby player has signed a deal with Leeds Rhinos – his all-time favourite Championship side.
Trae O’Sullivan, 18, only got a hint the Rhinos were interested a few weeks ago but already finds himself with a contract and his U19 debut under his belt.
The young player completed his Sport course at the Loughborough College RFL Academy at the end of May, moved to Leeds and has just had his first run-out for the side, against Hull FC.
“I played a game with the Midlands team against the Leeds Academy and a couple of days later the Rhinos got in touch to say they were interested and were going to watch some of my games.
“Not long after that I got a call to say they wanted to give me a contract.
“They said it would run until the end of the year – and then they would review, with the chance they might extend it for another year.
“It all happened so fast I was in shock – especially as Leeds has always been my number one team, so to suddenly be involved with all my favourite players was unbelievable.
“Two weeks in and I have actually been training with my first team heroes.
“I feel as if I’ve been here for ages, all the lads have been so welcoming.
“My debut was against Hull FC and although we lost it was great to get a run out and it all helping me develop as a player.
“There’s been a lot to learn with the different moves and calls and the defensive systems but the coaches have said I am handling it all well and they are really pleased with me.
“My time at Loughborough College’s RFL Academy has been really important in preparing me for the step up in intensity. They got me to Leeds and now it’s down to me to go one better.
“This is a great opportunity and I intend to make the best of it.”
