The Great Britain and Northern Ireland team sees 22 Loughborough College names selected to compete this weekend at the Paula Radcliffe Stadium.
The under 20 team picked for the Loughborough International Athletics on Sunday 17 May features 19 athletes currently studying on the College’s Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) programme, one alumnus and a Loughborough College Elite Sport Tutor.
Four of the Loughborough College athletes picked for the British team are 2015 European junior leaders in their event - pole vaulter Adam Hague, sprinters Ojie Edoburun and Tommy Ramdhan in the 100m and 200m respectively and Charlotte McLennaghan in the 200m.
Adam Hague, 17, has broken the British Junior record on three occasions in 2015 and he will be looking to extend his current best, standing at 5.60m, this weekend.
Last weekend, Charlotte McLennaghan recorded a time of 23.09 over 200m which took her to fifth on the UK all-time junior list in the event, above Olympic 400m bronze medallist Katharine Merry while at the World Junior Championships last year she finished fourth over 200m. As well as competing in the 200m this weekend, Charlotte will also be part of the 4x100m squad alongside fellow student Kristie Edwards, making her GB debut.
World Youth 100m silver medallist Ojie Edoburun stars in the 100m and the 4x100m relay alongsideTommy Ramdhan, making his British debut over 200m and British U20 leader in the long jump so far this year, Jacob Fincham-Dukes will be looking for another good display after achieving the European Junior Championships qualifying standard of 7.60m for the event in March.
Joining the athletes from Loughborough College selected for the GB team is Elite Sport tutor Courtney MacGuire, competing in the Women’s Pole Vault.
‘Its great to see some of our past and current AASE learners from the British Athletics AASE course being selected to represent Great Britain at the Loughborough International. For some this is their first GB call up so hopefully it can be used as a springboard to selection for this year’s European U20 championships, as well as major championships in the future,” said James Wilkinson, Loughborough College Elite Sport Tutor.
“The Loughborough International is a quality competition where these athletes can compete against senior international athletes in the UK, which will hopefully push them onto personal bests and qualifying standards for the European U20 championships.”
