Music release gets boost from Loughborough College students

New music tracks released across platforms including iTunes, Amazon and Spotify have been given a boost by students from Loughborough College.

Chris Quinn not only designed and built a website to highlight fellow student Elana Montgomery’s EP ‘Emeralds’ but also produced, engineered and mixed tracks, designed the cover art and provided photography –all using Loughborough College studio, recording and media facilities.

“It is amazing to have done all this on campus. Our brand new Loughborough Arts Academy only opened in September and things have really taken off. This has already become quite the place to be for music and performance,” said Chris, who is in the final year of his BA in Music at Loughborough College.

“It took six months and was a fantastic collaboration with contributions from Visual Arts and Music students at the College and music and lyrics for the five tracks written by Elana.

“I performed on and produced ‘Emeralds’ and created the website and I feel really pleased and proud of the result – especially when I saw the EP on iTunes.”

Elana, 18, from Shepshed was performing a solo acoustic set at last summer’s Glastonbudget festival when she discovered the LoCo stage run by Loughborough College students – and two months later she began studying a BTEC Diploma in Music at the College.

“I began singing from a very early age and have played guitar since I was 14. I love performing and knew I wanted to concentrate on my music.

“When I saw the brand new Loughborough Arts Academy with all its amazing facilities there was no doubt in my mind where I was going after my GCSEs.”

Chris is something of a Glastonbudget veteran, having helped run stages including LoCo for two years in a row. For the 2015 event, taking place later this month, he will be managing a new acoustic stage alongside a team including current and former Loughborough College students.

Loughborough College Visual Arts students working on the project included Lilly Deley, Chenis Buckingham, Lucy Jenkins, Stuart Davis and Charlotte Cooper.
