A competition showcasing culinary skills from across the UK saw Loughborough College scoop a staggering 34 awards, including two overall ‘Best in Class’.
The nation’s top chefs and servers faced a range of challenges at the 2015 Welsh International Culinary Championships over three days in Rhos-in-Sea.
Loughborough College Hospitality and Catering student Daniella Bromley alone not only secured three gold medals in Open Gateau, Piping Skills and as part of the Cook and Serve team but she also achieved a double triumph when she was awarded overall ‘Best In Class’ at the competition for Open Gateau and Piping Skills.
Classmates Ross Jones and Joe Minskip were each awarded gold in the Vegetable Cuts category and Daniella’s fellow Cook and Serve teammates took the tally to seven.
Nine silver medals were awarded for Loughborough College across categories including Team Fish Cookery, with two medals secured for their Trout Doria and Sole Duglere and a further double medal win for front of house service skills, plus Fruit Cuts, Open Fish, Asian Inspired, Open Fish, Open Welsh Beef, and Piping Skills. The College also came away with a further eight bronze medals and eight merits.
Daniella is no stranger to high profile achievement, having been selected last autumn from a country-wide field of applicants to work alongside the International Conference Centre team serving more than 1000 plates for a high-profile national dinner event in Birmingham.
Darren Creed, Loughborough College Programme Area Lead for Hospitality Travel and Aviation, said: “I am delighted with our team’s results this year. Everyone worked exceptionally hard during the practice sessions to hone their culinary and front of house skills and that translated to an outstanding result across the board.
“It is remarkable to come away with 34 medals and awards, including accolades for overall achievement.
“The students really are a credit to Loughborough College and we are so proud of every one of them.”
