Apprentice of the Year award for Loughborough College Engineer

Adam Coleman has been named Apprentice of the Year 2014 by Loughborough College and praised by employer GEM Integrated Solutions for his outstanding contribution to the company.

Selected for the accolade from more than 40 candidates on electro mechanical engineering programmes with Loughborough College, Employer Engagement Coordinator Carol French said the 21 year old’s skills development had been “tremendous.

“Adam more than rose to the challenge of the Advanced Apprenticeship, not only taking on extra courses and achieving highly across the board but also finishing the four-year programme several months early.

“His employer is delighted with him and hopes to take on two further apprentices with Loughborough College with Adam becoming a mentor to a new recruit.”

Mike Swann, General Manager at Warwick-based GEM Integrated Solutions Ltd described Adam’s award as a “fitting recognition for his outstanding contribution.

“He is very conscientious and a pleasure to work with and has become a key member of our team.

“Not only did Adam complete an Association of Electrical and Mechanical Trades (AEMT) Electro Mechanical Apprenticeship but he also completed a course covering the repair and reclamation of explosive atmosphere equipment, which he also passed with distinction.

“We very much hope to see Adam grow from his electrical mechanical fitter role to a supervisory position.

“This apprenticeship scheme run by Loughborough College in association with AEMT members is closely tailored to our industry. Everything learnt is relevant and applicable to the work apprentices will be doing and that makes this combination of time in college and work-based training really beneficial.

“Our aim is to take on two further apprentices with the College next year.”

Adam added:
“I am proud to receive this award. I was very fortunate to be selected as an apprentice for GEM. At first four years of training sounded quite daunting, but to be able to learn whilst being in a workplace is an excellent combination and with the support I have received the four years have flown by. I would recommend an apprenticeship scheme to anyone leaving school.”
