Alice Travis and Helen Housby have been chosen to play for England Netball, ranked third in the world.
Both players, who recently completed Loughborough College AASE Netball Sport programmes, will join the national team for their May tour of Australia, ahead of this summer’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
This will be 18 year old shooter Helen Housby’s first tour with the senior team, with 17 year old Alice in Reserves.
Lisa Thorpe, Elite Sport Tutor at Loughborough College said: “This is excellent news. We are so proud to see Helen and Alice in the squad.
“It is fantastic to see them both using the skills they have developed with us at such a high level.
“This is the eighth year of this Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) programme at Loughborough College, in association with England Netball for the past five, and it really is fantastic all-round preparation for talented players.
“The programme helps players understand what is needed to succeed, not just technically, tactically and physically but they are also given skills in communication, finance and career management and they learn about athlete lifestyle, anti-doping, injuries, nutrition and psychology.
“Playing in an amateur sport they need to understand how to manage a career alongside competition and for young players like Helen and Alice it is crucial to be given guidance on dealing with the psychological demands of being on the court with older, more experienced players.
“Players get all this and regular support from trained specialists in these areas throughout the programme.”
On the forthcoming tour, the England squad will play state sides, as well as teams from the Australian Netball League and ANZ Championship. New Zealand and Australia are ranked first and second respectively and are considered England's main rivals for July’s Games.
